This will be an annual show , so feel free to contact us for any information regarding the show and future performances.
History
AMDE was formed in 2006 out of the merger of two very dynamic dance companies. The Austin Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble provides integral experience, and training in how to become a professional dancer by combining young dancers who may be aspiring professionals with older dancers who have performed at the professional level. Additionally, AMDE provides opportunities to aspiring choreographers to set their ballets on a variety of dancers. This gives valuable experience, not only to the choreographers, but also to the young dancers who learn how to adapt to various styles of dance and teaching. The current company honors the traditions laid forth by the two following companies by performing under the combined banner of Austin Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble.
The Austin Dance Ensemble
The Austin Dance Ensemble began in January of 1992 with dancers who had several years of ballet training. The mission of the ADE was to serve as a training ground for young and aspiring professional dancers to gain stage experience in a quality environment. The company served as a middle ground for older teens and college-age dancers that had outgrown a children’s dance company, but were not ready to make the transition to a professional dance company. The company provided the opportunity for its members to dance with experienced dancers, and to gain their own experience through professional quality productions. Together with its youth group, The Youth Ballet Theatre, ADE provided performing opportunities, and training in the art of dance performance of ballet and modern for dancers beginning at age 8 through adult. Dancers from ADE went on to perform with many professional companies such as, Ballet Austin, San Diego Ballet, Minnesota Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and others.
Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble
Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble was formed in March of 2003. Beginning in February of 2004, MDE was based at Metamorphosis Dance Academy, a dance school established in Round Rock, Texas in January of 2004. MDE presented their first performance, “Memoirs” in March 2003 at the Umlauf Sculpture Gardens. MDE presented several performances in Austin and the surrounding areas since its founding. In January of 2005, MDE expanded its endeavors to include a youth company, Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble II. MDE II has graduated dancers that have gone on to pursue dance in higher education at Texas Christian University, Southern Methodist University, Goucher College, and Bellevue College.
